It is like the king was found out to have no clothes despite the critic's words extolling the invisible finery. The employees: a workplace novel of the 22nd century (Book) Uniform Title: Ansatte. Who know, perhaps my love of classical science fiction of yesteryear that was smart, multilayered, humanist, just better in every way, had something to do with it. While some may have found it speaks to them, it did not speak to me despite giving it a go. There is ambition all right, but the work itself fails to rise to the occasion. While ambition is not a bad thing on its own, the work then needs to support and answer it adequately, which is not happening here. Well, Lem this book is certainly not! It is too pretentious for that. In other words, overall, I found this book rather vacuous and cold, designed to appeal to a clientele of literary critics and prizes rather than written with heart and humanity that always informed the classic works of authors like Stanislav Lem and brothers Strugatsky that critics referenced in reviewing this drivel of a book. I found this book mentally cold, too analytical and ultimately meaningless exercise that was too preoccupied with PRETENDING to be profound rather than actually being profound. Literary critics reviewed this book well, and it even got nominated for some prizes. ![]()
